Will they ever bring “Firefly” back with new actors?

Well, actually, they did. “They” being the fans.

Browncoats: Redemption is a fan-made movie that premiered at DragonCon on September 4, 2010. Whedon was not involved in its production, though he did “give his blessing,” according to the project’s website. The film functioned as a sequel to the official Firefly movie, Serenity, and was released on DVD and Blu-Ray and shown at various conventions. The profits were distributed to five different charities.

But of course, that is not what fans mean when they ask this question. Will there be an actual revival, with Whedon and other staff members on board? And the answer is, at this point, probably not any more than we have already received.

The fact is, Firefly has had a better run than most shows get after being canceled. It received a sequel comic, Those Left Behind, as well as Serenity. They provided a good end to the series, even if they did not tie up all the plot threads that the show had raised. Whedon has commented that taking these together, he considers the series at least adequately finished. It’s up to fans to add anything else.
